December 09 website update

The beauty of using a content management system is that you can change the “skin” of your website with one click. All of the content, links etc. remain the same.

As we were getting a bit tired of the old design (it was a bit too grey) we previewed a few new ones and decided on the current design which you can see on this page. It still has some grey in it but there’s an extra bit of colour with the orange accents and the text is on a white background which makes it easier to read.

We’ve also updated our two enquiry forms, for business mobiles and mobile broadband, with a new heading bringing them up to speed with the main site design.

Finally we’ve contacted our web host to get the site running a bit quicker. We now have our own application pool which seems to have speeded up the site.

BlackBerry mobile phones

We have added a new page to our site dealing specifically with BlackBerry mobile phones.

There are so many different handsets being released by the different manufacturers on what seems like a daily basis. Some are well received and others not so. Sometimes Nokia handsets are selling well and at other times Samsung or Sony are doing well. However, for the business user BlackBerry mobiles are always in demand.

Research in Motion (RIM), the manufacturers of the BlackBerry range, concentrate their efforts mainly on pleasing the business user. They are renowned for their email services which allow you to keep in touch at all times.

Many people use BlackBerry phones all the time and when it comes to upgrading don’t consider any other phone. They have a loyal following who appreciate their ease of use allied to their powerful functionality.

They have a wide range of handsets including touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboards, half-QWERTY and other designs to satisfy all of their customer’s demands. They are reliable handsets generally and don’t have to cost too much. They are free of charge on tariffs starting at £20.

As they are generally used for data (email and internet) in addition to the usual voice and text functions, you will need to include data within your tariff package. BlackBerry internet solution and professional software can be included for a few pounds each month.

If BlackBerry mobile phones are something that might help your business please get in touch for a free quote to see what we can offer you.

Mobile phones in 2010

Mobile phones have come such a long way in such a short space of time. There are now more mobiles in the UK than people and the clamour for the latest mobile handset continues unabated.

Mobile technology looks set to continue to advance throughout 2010 and the convergence of devices means that it will not only be traditional phone manufacturers leading the charge but also computer-based companies joining in the fun.

For instance, Google are set to launch a mobile phone, developed in conjunction with HTC, the Nexus One. No news yet on which UK network it will appear on and information is fairly sketchy about all of its features but it will extend Google’s reach into mobile technology beyond its current Android operating system.

Then we have new devices called SmartBooks. As the name suggests these will be computer/phone devices positioned to bridge the gap between smartphones and netbooks.

SmartPhones will continue to do good business and will surely become the predominant phone-type in the future, fuelled by the continuing development of new and exciting apps.

We also have the coming of the 4G network, offering greatly improved download speeds for mobile phones and mobile broadband. High Definition voice calls, giving a clearer speech quality. A possible iPhone price war with Tesco Mobile and Vodafone offering the device. Digital TV on your handset.

These developments are only the tip of the iceberg. Over the coming months the mobile phone technology wars will continue to rage, which is good news for consumers as prices fall and better deals get offered.

Mobile phone recycling

There are now more mobile phones than people in the UK. This means that many people have more than one phone. Many of these phones are languishing in drawers or cupboards and may never be used again.

If you have a spare phone have you considered recycling it? There are many companies out there who will give you cash for your old mobile phone. This could range from £5 to £150 dependent upon model.

Both broken and working phones are eligible. Broken mobiles can be stripped for spare parts whilst working phones may be reconditioned and sold again or sent to be used in other countries.

Mobile phone recycling is also environmentally friendly. Many phones, particularly older models, contain harmful elements including lead, mercury and cadmium. If these are sent to landfill they could get into underground water sources.

The popularity of mobile phone recycling has led to a number of dedicated websites springing up. However prices for the same model vary greatly so make sure you check a few out before sending your phone off.

There are also recycling comparison websites available. This makes it easier for you to find the best price for your handset with only one click.

Once you have located the company offering you the best price follow the instructions on their website, which usually involves printing off a label to put on your envelope when your phone is sent off. These are freepost, although you should consider insuring the transit if your phone is valuable.

Money is not the only motivation for getting the best deal, there are also improvements in your business communications to be had by upgrading your handsets and integrating them within your overall telecoms infrastructure.

Rather than trawl through all of the different offers advertised by the major networks direct,  your best option is to utilise the services of experts in the field (us!) who know all of the business mobile tariffs and can advise you on the best handsets and deals for your usage.

We start from your existing deal, looking at your current bills and seeing how you currently use your phones. From this we can get an idea of your current usage. We factor in any changes that might be happening in your business in the coming months, and any extra facilities you might want us to quote for, before finding tariffs that will offer you the most cost-effective solution without compromising on quality.

With UK Mobile Phone Deals you will benefit from a dedicated account manager, available by phone or email, ensuring your new contract runs smoothly. We can also offer a full range of complementary telecoms services including landline systems and calls, broadband and mobile broadband, and related IT services.

UK business mobile networks

One of the biggest decisions you make when sorting out your business mobiles is which network to go with. Although the tariffs offered by each network will vary and one could stand out as the best value, the most important issue is coverage. After all a mobile phone is useless without good coverage.

Most businesses based in large cities will likely be able to choose from Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile or O2 with good coverage provided by all. In more rural locations often coverage is only available with one operator. Your own local knowledge will usually point you in the right direction. Your personal mobile and those of your friends and family will usually end up on the best network for your local area.

Whilst there are means of boosting a mobile phone signal, such as femtocells, it is always best to go with the best coverage, even if it involves paying more, unless you are in a not-spot where no coverage is possible.

All of this assumes that you will be using your mobiles at your place of work. If you only use them whilst out and about and you know the area of the UK where you use them has good coverage with a particular network then you know the answer to which network to go with.

For those with a choice of networks with similar coverage price is likely to be a deciding factor. Once you have decided the type of contract and phones you want/need then you can get a quote from all of them (via UK Mobile Phone Deals of course!).

Each network has different tariffs and the range of options is staggering when you factor in handsets, minutes, texts, data etc. We cut through this to provide you with the best quote based on your requirements and can offer you different network quotes or a specific network quote if you have a preference (perhaps through previous history).

Not just business mobile phones

At UK Mobile Phone Deals our aim is to save your business money. As well as our core product, business mobile phones, we also offer a number of related communication products and services for businesses.

Business Landline Phones

We can take over your existing lines saving you money on your line rental. We also offer call charges significantly cheaper than BT and most other providers. In fact we have a range of bespoke tariffs to suit all types and sizes of business.

You retain the existing infrastructure and any problems with your lines are still repaired by BT engineers. You benefit from the lower call charges without any change or interruption to your services.

We can also provide you with new telephone systems, installed by our own in-house engineers, as well as VOIP systems allowing you to route calls over the internet. If you need new lines we can provide analogue, ADSL2 and ADSL30.

Business Broadband

Many businesses take the cheapest broadband deal on offer and then moan about the speed of data transfer afterwards. This is usually because consumer grade broadband is shared between numerous users (often up to 60 at any given time) and can also be restricted at certain times of day.

This sharing of the broadband bandwidth by multiple users is called the contention ratio. Our contention ratios on business-grade broadband are 10-1, meaning only 10 users share the available bandwidth. We can also offer private lines so you are the only user receiving the service.

Many businesses rely on the internet to a great extent so why put up with a slow connection? A faster connection allows you to do more and that means more profit at the end of the day.

Telephone Numbers

We can provide you with non-geographic numbers – 0844, 0845, 03, 0808 and more. These can be a source of revenue or a helpful sales tool.

For more information on any of these services please contact us.

Get better mobile coverage in your home

Despite considerable investment in infrastructure and new mobile phone masts there are still plenty of parts of the country where mobile phone coverage is poor, particularly indoors. This is not only in rural areas but even affects many suburban areas too.

Whilst many people would argue that a mobile phone is not so important in the home as they have landline phones, there are an increasing number of people, particularly younger people, who do not have landlines any more but rely upon their mobile phone. Plus if you need to ring another mobile phone the cheapest option is usually to call from your own mobile and use your inclusive minutes.

There has been considerable advertising recently from Vodafone about their new service, Sure Signal. This is a new branding, rather than a new idea, as the Vodafone femtocell was originally launched in the middle of 2009. This launch was low key and the device itself was expensive at the time.

Sure Signal has brought the costs down making it more affordable, particularly if you have multiple users within the same household. The only requirement for using it is home broadband with a minimum line speed of 1Mbps, plus a 3G mobile phone.

Plugging the device into your home broadband connects to the Vodafone network, boosting signal strength throughout your house and giving you a full 3G signal. Up to 32 numbers can be registered with four of these being able to use the available bandwidth at any one time. It also provides a signal for mobile broadband devices, all providing they have a Vodafone UK sim installed.

Available direct from Vodafone or via their own high street outlets starting from £50, dependent upon your tariff. We haven’t used one ourselves so cannot comment on their reliability or by how much the signal is boosted.

Updating our mobile phone articles

We have a number of mobile phone articles on the site, many of which were written several years ago. Whilst we have been updating the main site these have been overlooked and are now being amended and overhauled.

Mobile phone technology has moved at such a pace in recent times that the information from even a couple of years ago is largely obsolete now and of little use to our visitors!

Once the current articles have been brought up-to-date we will be adding new articles on a regular basis as well as keeping our blog updated with news and views from the worlds of consumer mobiles and business mobile phones.

New mobile phones, technological advancements and future possibilities for mobile tech will all be covered.

Business mobile phone contracts

As a business you want to sell your product or service at the highest price whilst keeping your outgoings to the absolute minimum. That is the way to maximise your profits.

Keeping an eye on all of the different bills you pay and making sure you review your costs at each and every contract renewal should be a matter of course for all businesses. If you are not doing this currently, or are “too busy” to do this then you are likely to be paying too much. Other businesses, your suppliers, will take advantage of your lax practices and before you know it you will wonder why your profits are falling!

We can’t help you with your gas or electric bills but we can help you with a wide range of telecoms products. Areas where you can save money include:

  • Business Mobiles
  • Business landline – line rental and call charges
  • Business Broadband
  • Mobile Broadband
  • Vehicle and device tracking

Not only can you save money but by taking a range of telecoms products from one supplier you know that they will all work together to provide a seamless communication solution.

Even a small difference in tariff could mean a lot of money over the course of a 24 month contract. For instance if you are paying too much each month for minutes, texts and data you will never use or if you have too small a tariff and are regularly paying for calls at 40p per minute or more.

Finding the best tariff and getting the best contract for your business mobiles is where we come in. However busy you are we keep disruption to a minimum and work hard on your behalf to get you the best deal. You concentrate on running your own business, we concentrate on saving your business money.

It doesn’t cost you anything to use our services and it is worth getting us to quote, even if it is only to put your mind at rest that your current deal is the best one available.

It only takes a couple of minutes to fill in our online enquiry form and see how much your business could save by getting the best business mobile contract.
