Mobile phones in 2010

Mobile phones have come such a long way in such a short space of time. There are now more mobiles in the UK than people and the clamour for the latest mobile handset continues unabated.

Mobile technology looks set to continue to advance throughout 2010 and the convergence of devices means that it will not only be traditional phone manufacturers leading the charge but also computer-based companies joining in the fun.

For instance, Google are set to launch a mobile phone, developed in conjunction with HTC, the Nexus One. No news yet on which UK network it will appear on and information is fairly sketchy about all of its features but it will extend Google’s reach into mobile technology beyond its current Android operating system.

Then we have new devices called SmartBooks. As the name suggests these will be computer/phone devices positioned to bridge the gap between smartphones and netbooks.

SmartPhones will continue to do good business and will surely become the predominant phone-type in the future, fuelled by the continuing development of new and exciting apps.

We also have the coming of the 4G network, offering greatly improved download speeds for mobile phones and mobile broadband. High Definition voice calls, giving a clearer speech quality. A possible iPhone price war with Tesco Mobile and Vodafone offering the device. Digital TV on your handset.

These developments are only the tip of the iceberg. Over the coming months the mobile phone technology wars will continue to rage, which is good news for consumers as prices fall and better deals get offered.
